USPCAS-W Student Poster Competition at MUET


JAMSHORO December 7, 2016:  Poster competition among the students of Environment Engineering (ENV.ENG) and Water, Sanitation and Health Sciences (WaSHS) departments of U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) was held at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) Jamshoro. Total 24 students studying in Master of Science (MS) in ENV.ENG and WaSHS participated in the poster competition. MS students of ENV.ENG displayed the posters on different physical, chemical and biological processing units on water and climate whereas the students of WasSHS presented their posters on chemistry and biology for wash includes constructed wetlands, assessment of phosphate and sulphate in drinking water, dosing of chlorination in water treatment plant, biogas production by waste water sludge, Nano filtration membrane performance in water, Eutrophication of Waste Water, Greywater Cycling, Study on Hepatitis A and its prevalence in Pakistan and other related topics. While during the turn each of the participant delivered the relevant poster presentation to the jury consisting of senior professors. After the competition the certificate distribution ceremony held in which the chief guest Dr. Mohammad Aslam Chaudhry, Chief of Party USPCAS-W, University of Utah said that poster competition and such activities are basically brainstorming for the future research whereas such competitions will help to the students to tailor their mind to the concerned research activities and also enhance their capacities to handle research based projects. He also announced that the student research paper competition will be held in the next week of the December to encourage the students to undertake research writings. Dr. Kamran Ansari, Deputy Director USPCAS-W said that management of USPCAS-W is always committed to support such type of activities and also encourage the students and faculty to organize such events to enhance their research skills. Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar appreciated the efforts of Dr. Sara Hassan, assistant professor of USPCAS-W who organized this event and also encouraged the students to take part in such activities. Dr. Sara Hassan, the organizer of the competition said that the basic goal of this event is to enhance the capacity building, brain storming and transferring scientific knowledge that provides comprehensive information through pictures rather than words. She said that topics of the poster competition were taken from the existing issues of the community as to benefit the society at the maximum level. According the decision of the jury, Ms. Sumra Arain and Ms. Huma Tariq got first position whereas Mr. Muhammad Raffae, Ms. Jassica Lawrence, Ms. Pashmina Iftikhar, Ms. Shaista Mubark got second position and Mr. Doulat Ram got third position in the poster competition. On this occasion, the participants have been awarded with certificates and prizes whereas the guests and jury members were presented the traditional gifts of Sindhi Ajrak.
